¡Feliz
agosto! (Happy August!)
And happy
36th anniversary to us! Since our anniversary fell on a Monday we
celebrated on the Saturday before. Unfortunately we only took one picture (which
Lane doesn’t like), so you’ll have to use your imagination to see us enjoying
dinner at TGIF (We know, we know … we should be branching out and trying
something uniquely Peruvian, but that’s just not happening!).
We’ll let
the pics tell the story of our week.
Love this
thought from Elder Ulisses Soares:
“[W]hen we
intentionally and truly dedicate ourselves to look unto Him and learn from His
perfect example, we come to know Him better. We grow in enthusiasm and desire
to incorporate into our lives the ultimate standard of how we should live, the
example we should set, and the commandments we should follow. We also gain
additional understanding, wisdom, divine character, and grace toward God and
our neighbors.”
¡Que
tengan una semana fantástica! (Have a fantastic week!)
Love,
Lane &
LeAnn
On Monday we received our first two Bolivian missionaries since the pandemic. And because President and Hermana Manly had their Interpol appointments that day, we got to pick them up from the airport. It was fun talking to them as they both came from the Bolivia Cochabamba mission where Lane also served back when Cochabamba was part of the Santa Cruz mission.
Here they are heading out to their areas and new companions!
Occasionally Lane has to go to the bank for office finances. This is the typical line waiting to get inside. It seems everyone loves bank lines here. Something about their banking system is just line-prone.
Another week for Lane buying desks, tables, and bookshelves for new houses. This is a view of inside one of the furniture stores near our mission office where Lane sometimes buys furniture.
This video clip shows inside the furniture store and then a street view from the window of the furniture store.
Four more mattresses being delivered to our storage area.
On Thursday and Friday we drove Hermana Manly out to visit apartments in the north side of our mission. These two elders live in the apartment farthest north, Torre Blanca. We'd never driven this far north before.
We love these hermanas!
Just had to take a picture of each sister by her desk. Even though this is a tiny apartment, I love how they decorate their walls and make it feel warm and inviting.
Sister C by her desk.
The elder on the right (light-colored pants) was one of our office trainers and is a super awesome missionary and person. Lane promised him cookies, so we stopped by and dropped some off to him and his companion.
And here they are by their ginormous planning white board.
Another couple of adorable misioneras!
The elder on the right (gray suit) recently arrived to our mission from the Nevada Las Vegas mission where he'd been temporarily re-assigned. Coincidentally, his parents were called as mission leaders in one of the nearby Lima missions. So, before his younger brother left for his mission to Florida, our elder was able to visit his family on his p-day to say good-bye.
This is their kitchen, which is luxurious compared to some of our missionaries' kitchens. They have a full stove AND oven (although they only use the oven to store dishes! 😂). Our elder from Las Vegas said it was the best apartment he's been in during his entire mission - including those from Las Vegas.
Had to snap a photo of a new stake center being built in our mission. I made a hasty exit when I saw the dog moving toward me! We've had 2 missionaries bit by dogs in the last couple of months and I didn't want to be the 3rd victim!
It's so weird to see a completely modern-looking, high-rise apartment building out in the middle of nowhere.
This truck looked like it was going to explode with corn!
President and Sister Manly treated us to dinner this weekend, and included a stop at the donut shop which we had never tried before. Good and fun!
LeAnn eating one small donut...
And of course Lane eating the rest of the box of donuts.
Lane made his last mission-batch of cookies tonight, but of course LeAnn is still over working on the computer and doing mission stuff. Lane also finished off his last box of Raisin Nut Bran cereal this week, and used the last of his chocolate chips tonight (neither of which are available to purchase in Peru), so we're thinking that's a sign for us to begin packing up to head home! We're in our last full week of mission work.
